Google promises new tool will make exploring career opportunities “a little bit easier.”
Google has unveiled a new tool called Career Dreamer that can help job seekers land better opportunities.
Career Dreamer uses AI to identify the most suitable jobs for a person. Users answer questions about their background, interests, and unique experiences. Career Dreamer analyses that information and provides results on matching skills and possible career opportunities.
It also helps users discover training resources that can fast-track their career. The tool is pulling job market data from Lightcast, and wage information from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Claire Thorn, one of the early testers of the tool, says, “Career Dreamer helped identify skills that I take for granted and showed me that they’re important and useful in the workforce. Now, I’m armed with the confidence of knowing that I already possess exactly what employers need.”
The new tool is designed to “make career exploration a little bit easier for everyone,” says Google. It is not just out to play a simple matching game with people’s skills and available jobs. It will help them better understand their career identity and speak more confidently to employers about what they can bring to the workforce. Users can also work with Gemini, Google’s AI assistant, to draft their cover letters and refine their resumes.
This development comes at a time of speculation over whether or not AI will take people’s jobs. Google’s Career Dreamer is significant in that context. Rather than take your job, it seems AI might just help you land one.
The World Economic Forum reported in January that AI will transform the workforce within the next five years. Some jobs will be closed, but newer roles will be created. Google’s thinking may just be that nothing can better help people understand and navigate that new terrain than AI itself.
An AI assistant can process the information on the job space much faster than humans can. It can then help them begin to make preparations and access training resources for their chosen roles.
But that’s all in the future. For now, “If you’re ready for a career change, or just wondering what’s out there, try Career Dreamer,” says Google.
