JERUSALEM — Israel’s recent attack on Iran, which stunned Tehran by crippling key nuclear and military sites, relied on artificial intelligence to rapidly analyze vast troves of intelligence and pinpoint high-value targets, according to current and former Israeli officials.

The operation, years in the making, combined AI-driven data processing with human espionage to strike with unprecedented precision, leaving Iran’s defenses scrambling to respond. Guided by Mossad agents and advanced algorithms, Israeli forces disabled air defense systems, bombed nuclear facilities, and killed senior Iranian military leaders in a meticulously coordinated assault.

“This attack is the culmination of years of work by the Mossad to target Iran’s nuclear program,” said Sima Shine, a former Mossad research director.

AI played a critical role in sifting through intercepted communications, satellite imagery, and other intelligence to identify vulnerabilities and select targets, an Israeli intelligence officer said. The system helped analysts categorize potential strikes—ranging from leadership figures to missile sites—and accelerate decision-making ahead of the operation.

The attack also involved smuggling armed drones and precision weapons into Iran, which were then used in tandem with airstrikes to overwhelm Tehran’s defenses. The tactics bore similarities to recent Ukrainian drone operations against Russia, officials noted.

Iranian authorities, caught off guard, have since launched a sweeping crackdown, uncovering hidden weapons caches and arresting suspected operatives. But the damage was already done: key nuclear facilities were hit, and at least eight senior members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps were killed.

While Iran has long denied pursuing nuclear weapons, Israel’s strike—enabled by AI and deep intelligence penetration—has dealt a significant blow to Tehran’s military and atomic ambitions. The operation marks a new frontier in the shadow war between the two adversaries, one where machine-speed analysis may now dictate the pace of conflict.
