Israel is set to become the first country in the world to implement AI-driven tutoring at a national level, thanks to a new partnership between the Center for Educational Technology (CET) and eSelf, an AI platform that enables users to create customizable avatars.
Announced on Tuesday, the initiative will provide every K-12 student in Israel with a personalized AI tutor designed to assist with exam preparation, concept mastery, and adaptive learning. Harvard University will serve as an academic advisor during the pilot phase.
“We’re partnering with eSelf to provide a personal AI tutor to every student in Israel,” said Tzachi Langer, VP of Marketing and Product at CET. “This partnership is the first step in making AI an accessible tool nationwide, increasing educational equity and empowering students.”
The AI tutors, designed as interactive avatars, will adapt to each student’s learning style, offering tailored explanations and practice questions. The avatars are multilingual, though the pilot will initially focus on Hebrew instruction.
Victor Pereira of Harvard University praised the initiative, calling it a way to “bridge socioeconomic gaps” while enhancing, not replacing, human educators.
Dr. Alan Bekker, CEO of eSelf, said the program demonstrates AI’s potential to “level the playing field” in education. The initiative marks a historic step in integrating AI into national learning systems.
