In recent times, artificial intelligence (AI) has been increasingly used to generate female influencers who promote far-right ideologies and political parties, particularly in Germany. This tactic has been particularly evident on social media, where these AI-generated personalities spread political messages and influence public opinion.
AI-Generated Figures and Far-Right Influence
According to DW News, one prominent example is the AI-generated influencer “Larissa Wagner,” who presents herself as a young woman from Senftenberg. She claims to be a political activist and supports the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. She uses homophobic language, describes left-wing women as “disgusting,” and aligns herself with extremist narratives.
Social media plays a crucial role in amplifying such content. According to researchers, far-right actors strategically monitor social media trends and use AI to generate appealing personalities that spread their ideology effectively. AI-generated images of idealized “Aryan” figures—blonde-haired, blue-eyed German women—are used to reinforce nationalist and exclusionary messages.
The Role of AI in Manipulating Public Opinion
Experts warn that many social media users do not realize that these influencers are not real people. Instead, they focus on the message rather than questioning the authenticity of the figure delivering it. The use of AI enables far-right actors to create highly polished, airbrushed personalities that attract and persuade audiences.
In some cases, these AI-generated influencers engage with real users, further blurring the line between fiction and reality. This manipulation fosters polarization, strengthens ideological bubbles, and undermines democratic discourse.
Political Campaigns and AI Propaganda
AI-generated content is not limited to anonymous social media accounts—it has also been used in official political campaigns. AfD Chancellor candidate Alice Weidel, for example, has shared AI-generated images in her campaign videos. These images depict an idealized version of Germany before the arrival of refugees in 2015, reinforcing nationalist nostalgia.
Such tactics align with broader far-right strategies, where AI tools are used to spread disinformation, create fear, and manipulate public perception. By producing artificial images and influencers, far-right actors craft a narrative that supports their political goals while misleading the public.
The Need for Awareness and Fact-Checking
As AI-generated influencers become more sophisticated, experts stress the importance of digital literacy and critical thinking. Identifying fake content, questioning its sources, and fact-checking political messages are crucial to preventing manipulation.
